Turtles Love Sea Breeze Too!

The Department of Environment has identified another sea turtle nest on the beach at Sea Breeze, with hatching expected to occur within the coming weeks.

According to the DoE, the nest is predicted to hatch anytime between September 29th and October 12th, 2026. This represents part of a successful nesting season at the property, with a total of three nests located on the Sea Breeze beachfront this year. A second nest is expected to hatch between October 7th and 22nd.

Protecting Hatchlings on Their Journey to Sea

Sea turtle hatchlings face a critical vulnerability during their first journey to the ocean. When emerging from their nests at night, the young turtles navigate by moving toward the brightest light source they can detect—a natural instinct that has guided them to the sea for millennia. However, artificial lighting from beachside properties can disorient hatchlings, causing them to move away from the ocean and toward populated areas, significantly reducing their survival rates.

To protect the hatchlings during this critical period, property owners and residents at Sea Breeze are urged to take the following precautions during the expected hatching windows:

  • Turn off all non-turtle-friendly exterior lighting
  • Draw curtains, drapes, and blinds after sunset
  • Turn off interior lights when not in use

A Conservation Priority

Sea turtles are an endangered species, and nesting sites in Grand Cayman represent an important part of regional conservation efforts. The successful incubation and hatching of nests like those at Sea Breeze depends on community cooperation and awareness.
